Over the past few years, my greatest learning is that community is not meant to be comfortable. It is meant to be fluid, diverse and inevitable messy, but it will leave you with a new layer of empathy and understanding. Henri Nouwen writes on this, when hostility is converted into hospitality “then fearful strangers can become guests revealing to their hosts the promise they are carrying with them”.

And there has never been a more prevalent opportunity to practice kindness and hospitality. This week we explored as a community the paradox of togetherness and isolation. How to be in community, when we can't necessarily be in community.

So it seemed like the perfect time to showcase the incredible talents of Katie Anne Paterson, whose entire final year project centered on exploring the concept of community with those around her. It serves as the perfect reminder that community exists in far more places than around a dinner table. So head to The Oh Nine to delve into Katie’s work as she interviews members from the CV Community on their understanding of community.
